Introducing yourself to students
Using Screencast-O-Matic, I created a short introduction video that shows pictures of myself, hobbies I have, my job, and my favorite online tools. I like using s.o.m., because it allows me to record my voice as I show my computer screen. I then used YouTube to CC my video to make it accessible. In the future, I think I will also create a transcript below each video as well. This way students can see what I look like, hear my voice, as well as learn more about me. Since I created a hybrid course it is not as important that I have a long video.
In response to this video, I could have my students do a few things. In my LMS, I chose to have them respond via forum; other ways you can get students to respond is by having them create their own videos, short autobiographies, or slideshow.

Keeping students self-motivated, responsible, and respectful
I also have a large welcoming message in my first section. Here is where I would have students really see my goal for the classroom, which is having a open and respectful, learner-centered environment. I want them to see how much I want them to succeed, and how excited I am to have each and every single one of them in my classroom. I like to start out the year on a positive, high note.
Below is a picture of my LMS header. This is at the top of my course homepage, and gives students the most important information. This is helpful for students who are often forgetful of where information is. I first have a forum that allows for people to ask me, or other classmates questions pertaining to the course. Then, I have an announcement forum. (I don't think I will use this that much.) As this will be a hybrid course, I think it would be more helpful to have an ongoing Google Document that I could open in class, or the students could access from any online device. As you can see, I also have a student code contract that will help keep students on track, as well as take ownership of their learning. The syllabus has important information, too. So, I decided to also put this in my top header. Finally, I have my online photo collage. This is all the students names in the class with a picture.
