Being accessible to all students is key to successful teaching. This means designing individualized, but universal lessons that can be facilitated to a large variety of students with a wide set of skills and weaknesses. In a general education classroom, most students will be similar and the task of reaching all of them with the same information is easier. In a special education classroom, it can be a bit more tricky.
Hallahan, Kauffman, & Pullen (2012) define special education as, "specially designed instruction that meets the unusual needs of an exceptional student and that might require special materials, teaching techniques, or equipment and/or facilities." (p.10)
With the above quote in mind, I developed a Moodle course that is meant to be used as a flipped, hybrid Learning Management System. Most of the instruction and work time will happen within the class period, with a lot of the online portion being enrichment activities for students to better understand each subject being taught. My target grade was between 5-8., with a specific design for exceptional learners. Some of these learners might be deaf, have a learning or behavioral disability, have ADD/ADHD, or suffer from multiple disorders; no matter the student, my goal was to make this LMS accessible, enticing, educational, and fun.
I hope you enjoy my site!
